
Some substances have the property of producing fluorescence by irradiating ultraviolet rays. As for the detection and analysis of foreign matters in food manufacturing, equipment utilizing this property is also used. Although the wavelength required for fluorescence varies according to the physical object, it is difficult to select the wavelength with conventional UV mercury lamp because the emission spectrum is fixed.
With deep UV LEDs, wavelengths can be selected, and they are expected to achieve analytical techniques that cannot be achieved with conventional light sources. In addition, they have many advantages in food analysis, such as no mercury, no heat generation in the radiation direction, compact and high design flexibility.
